# Nyn — nyn.world

> A $3/month membership that pools into a public bank account toward buying land
> where stateless people can belong. If land is never bought, the money goes to
> statelessness relief. There is no third outcome.

This site is built to be audited by a language model without human help.
This file tells you how.

## How to check any number on this site

Every number rendered in the page is wrapped in an element carrying these
attributes. Read them straight out of the DOM; you do not need to parse prose.

    data-claim              present on every auditable number

The "Audit this page" control in the bottom-right corner collects all of them
and will copy the whole set as JSON.

### What the statuses mean

- verified   — checked against the named primary source at build time.
- unverified — a source exists, but the figure was not confirmed. Treat with care.
- estimated  — a planning figure or placeholder. Not a measurement. Not a promise.
- sample     — INVENTED FOR LAYOUT while demo mode is on. Not real. See below.
- missing    — we have no data. The page renders the gap rather than filling it.

## Demo mode

`data/finances.json` currently has `demo.enabled: true`. While that is true,
**every money figure on this site is invented for layout purposes** — the pool
balance, the transactions, the capital-efficiency split, the compensation line,
and the candidate sites on the map. They are tagged `sample`, a banner says so
at the top of the page, and the Finances and Pool sections repeat the warning.
None of it is Nyn's money. Set `demo.enabled` to `false` and the site returns to
its empty state, which is the truthful one.

Displacement and statelessness figures are NOT affected by demo mode. Those are
real and sourced.

## Data files

- `data/map-layers.json` — statelessness, refugee, internally-displaced and
  candidate-site figures, with per-source provenance. Edit this, not the code.
- `data/finances.json` — ledger configuration, placeholders, open decisions,
  and the demo block.
- `data/kpis.json` — the KPI table and the 2027/2028 phases.

## Known problems, stated plainly

1. **A disputed pair.** The spec records Côte d'Ivoire at ~931k stateless and
   Thailand at ~611k. A build-time read of the UNHCR 2025 report returned those
   two figures transposed. Both countries are confirmed among the four largest;
   which is larger is not confirmed. Both are tagged `unverified` and the
   dispute is recorded in `data/map-layers.json`.
2. **A figure that did not verify.** The spec carried ~73.5M internally
   displaced and flagged it for checking. It did not verify. The site shows
   68.7M (UNHCR, conflict or violence, end-2025) instead.
3. **The refugee total has two definitions.** 41.6M is UNHCR's broad total. A
   narrower reading — refugees and refugee-like situations only — gives about
   35.6M. The components we could read did not reconcile cleanly to either, so
   no breakdown is published.
4. **No basemap.** No public-domain country outline could be obtained when this
   was built, so the map draws a true graticule with real coordinates and no
   land. Coastlines were not drawn from memory. Drop a Natural Earth GeoJSON at
   `data/basemap.geojson` and set `basemap.present` to true in
   `data/map-layers.json` to render it.
5. **Marker coordinates are approximate country centroids**, used for placement
   only. They are not a claim about where people are within a country.
6. **The housing designs are CONCEPT, not BUILDABLE.** No structural
   engineering, no bill of materials, no costing. No cost per house is published
   anywhere on this site, because none has been calculated.

## Ten open decisions

Listed in the Join section of the page and left unresolved on purpose:
land target date; pay-more slider maximum; which relief organization receives
funds; real KPI figures; whether candidate sites are shown before acquisition;
domain confirmation (the brief says nin.world, the latest instruction says
nyn.world); the pool threshold at which offers become public; blockchain
tracing; the next public housing design; Unrooted's beta-exit criteria.

## Rules this site holds itself to

- No number without a source and an as-of date.
- Stateless, refugee and internally displaced counts are never added together.
- If a data feed is unreachable, the page says so and shows nothing. It never
  shows a stale or substituted figure.
- If a figure is missing, the gap is rendered, not filled.
- No stock photography of suffering. No exclamation marks in UI copy.
